Specializing in 16th century Renaissance Polyphony
Welcome to Atlanta Schola Cantorum – a reprieve from the hectic cares of life, a place to slow down and enter the serene, beautiful, lyrical, complex, and sometimes even dramatic world of Renaissance choral music. We are computer scientists, educators, anthropologists, business people, chiropractors, retired lawyers, baristas, and so much more, bonded together by our love of singing sacred acapella choral music from the Renaissance.
Atlanta Schola Cantorum specializes in 16th century polyphony by composers such as Palestrina, Praetorius, Tallis, Byrd, Gabrieli, and Josquin de Prez, as well as medieval chant and rarely heard songs, such as early Spanish music from the Codex Las Huelgas and Llibre Vermell de Montserrat. In addition, the group’s extensive repertory includes early baroque music and works by contemporary composers such as Benedict Sheehan, Ola Gjeilo, Michael John Trotta, Will Todd, and Morten Lauridsen.
