Atlanta Schola Cantorum, under the direction of John Whitt, will present Maiden Mother Queen, a program of Advent and Christmas choral music, on Friday, December 5, at St. Bede’s Episcopal Church, 2601 Henderson Mill Road, and on Saturday, December 6, at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, 1790 LaVista Road. Both performances begin at 8 p.m. and a donation of $10 is requested.

The program features works of Marian devotion, including Orlando Gibbons’s Magnificat and Nunc dimittis from his Short Service, Jean Mouton’s lavish Nesciens mater, Orlando di Lasso’s Salve Regina, and double chorus works such as Victoria’s Ave Maria à 8 and Hammerschmidt’s Machet die Tore weit, as well as settings of Ave Maris Stella by Trond Kverno and Claudio Monteverdi. The chorus will be supported on some works by a viol consort.
