A Special Performance

At the Monastery of the Holy Spirit

Sunday, October 31, 2004

In celebration of the 60th anniversary

of the monastery's founding

The program, entitled Songs for the Mother, featured the Gloria, Sanctus, and Benedictus from Claudio Monteverdi's Mass for Four Voices, dating from the early 17th century. We sang motets by Anerio, Byrd, Palestrina, Lassus, and Sweelinck, along with a group of Ave Maria settings by Handl, Rachmaninov, Pärt, Daley, and Parsons, and Arvo Pärt’s Magnificat. The concert also included the Song of Songs, in settings by 16th-century composers Antoine Brumel and Clemens non Papa.

We are deeply grateful to the Brothers of the Monastery for giving us the opportunity to sing in such a wonderful space.  You may visit their website at www.trappist.net.
